Cannabis Group at GIE Media Continues to Expand

Three new editors hired to accommodate rapid growth.

CLEVELAND, OH -- Due to the continued expansion of Cannabis Business Times magazine and the Cannabis Cultivation Conference, and with the November 2017 launch of Cannabis Dispensary magazine, as well as the rapid growth of the Cannabis Group’s websites and other digital products, parent company GIE Media Inc. is announcing the addition of several editors to help support the further development of the brands.

Scott Guthrie joined the Cannabis Group at GIE Media Inc. in September 2017 as senior editor to help direct the launch and continued editorial direction of Cannabis Dispensary magazine, and other related digital products. He is also tasked with contributing to the editorial direction and content of Cannabis Business Times, and the Cannabis Cultivation Conference.

Guthrie obtained his master's degree in journalism from Northwestern and worked in digital media for the U.S. Olympic Committee, where he helped cover the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Prior to transitioning to media, he led a team of account analysts at JP Morgan.

Eric Sandy joined GIE Media’s Cannabis Group Jan. 8 as digital editor, responsible for the further development of the group’s websites, as well as all related digital products and social media channels. He also will oversee the group’s digital team.

A graduate of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University, Sandy has worked at several news publications in Ohio as an editor and writer. He is an award-winning journalist whose past reporting has included the federal justice system, the energy industry, environmental news, local music and the burgeoning cannabis industry in Ohio and around the country.

Melissa Schiller joined the Cannabis Group as assistant digital editor in August 2017. Schiller is responsible for further developing’s editorial coverage, as well as contributing to the brand’s other digital products and working to share breaking news from the cannabis cultivation industry with the publication’s social media audiences.

Previously, Schiller worked as an audience development associate for GIE Media’s Ornamental Group of publications, where she managed the circulation for Cannabis Business Times, Garden Center, Nursery Management, and Greenhouse Management magazines. She also has worked as a contributing writer and editorial assistant for a community newspaper and as a freelance writer for Northeast Ohio Media Group and Modern Tire Dealer. Schiller is a graduate of Hiram College with a bachelor’s degree in creative writing.
